The Other One

Spanish lady come to me,
She lays on me this rose.
It rainbow spiral round and round,
then trembles and explodes.
It left a smoking crater of my mind I like to blow away.
But the heat come round and busted me for smiling on a cloudy day.

Escape through the lily fields,
I came across an empty space.
It rainbow then exploded,
left a bus stop in its place.
The bus came by and I got on,
Thats when it all began.
It was Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never end land.

Commin, commin, commin around.
Commin around y'all now.

Lights are up and the tree is decorated, pumpkin pie has been made and a fresh bottle of eggnog in the refrigerator.
I think it's Christmas time.

Stay cool,
Tim

Calanders Are Delivered!

Hey Rocky Point....
We delivered 1300 calanders today, still about 300 short. We get closer and closer each year. Hopefully next year we will have enough for everyone.
Thank you Bradly, David. Ian, Carson, Lauren, Sam and Ted. You all did a fantastic job.
Most people thanked us and only 2 people yelled at us.
Happy Holidays to all,
Tim

30 years and it still amazes me.

It never seems to amaze me how sloppy and poor work that goes on everyday in peoples attics.

I guess for some people it takes too much time or too much money to take their trash with them.

This is just a word to the people or company's that do this (and I do know who you are) there is a big green truck that comes around 2 times a week and they LIKE to take the trash with them. If you give them 20 or 30 dollars they will like you even more.

Lets keep the world clean,
Tim

Thanksgiving and nothern relatives

I have never put a picture of my wife on my blog spot. She said she wanted to stay annonomis. So after a lot of pursuassion she decided to pic a pic and let me use it.
Thanx Momma.

More serious stuff.
The holidays sometimes brings us northern visitors. This is our boys (with shirts on) with their cousins from New Jersey.
We all had a very good Thanksgiving and ate way too much. The next day we all went to the beach, a little chilly for us but the Jersey boys seem to think it was wonderfully warm and had a good time.
Fishing was poor this day but the memories were high.

Happy Holidays to all.
Call all your northern freinds and family and tell them about our freezing temps at night (45 degrees) and invite them down to warm on up.

Stay warm
Tim

Time to exit the bus.

These photos came out a little blurry.
Bob weir is the one on the stage and I'm the one sitting in my seat.
(just in case you were confussed)

Alot of people ask why do you go to see the same bands over and over again?
Every night the bands we see play a different set list from previous nights. Each night the band has a different energy level. We are always "chasing the dragon" as it were, for that perfect show. The show on friday night is as close to it as we have been in a very long time.

Fridays show was at the Barbara Mann theater of the performing arts in Fort Meyers. It is actually the auditorium at Edison College. A small venue (approx. 900 seats) made just for music. Padding on the ceiling, beautiful and comftobale seats, and alot of very nice elderly attendents to help you to your seats. (5th row tonight).

Set 1
Jam>
The Music Never Stopped>
Maggies Farm,
She Belongs To Me,
Loose Lucy,
Money For Gasoline,
Even So>
October Queen>
The Deep End>
Hell In A Bucket.

Set 2

Freind Of The Devil>
Victim Or The Crime>
Estimated Prophet>
Lady With A Fan>
Terrapin>
STUFF>
Sugaree>
Sugar Magnolia.

Encore:
At A Siding>
Terrapin Fl yer.

First set was an excellent set. Alot of the songs my wife and I enjoy, strong energy and excellent sound in this venue. Crowd was abuzz at intermission saying it was one of the best sets of this Fall tour.

Then came the second set. WOW....WOW....WOW!!
This by far was the best set we have seen in 19 years by ANY band.(We have seen alot of shows in this time). Ratdog blew the roof off of this place, and the crowd blew the doors open with their applause.
It was like listening to a symphony ochestra.
We will Never miss a Ft. Meyers show again.

Saturdays show was in Boca Raton, outdoors to about 5000 people. It was a good fun show, but kind of a letdown after fridays extravaganza.
Still a good solid show.

Set 1
Jam>
Bertha>
Silvio> Tequella> Silvio>
Althea>
Bird Song>
The Golden Road To Unlimited Devotion>
Lazy River Road>
Bird Song>
Big Railroad Blues.

Set 2

One More Saturday Night.

A very solid show, sound was for an outdoor venue, only second time ever playing Dancing In The Streets, and first time ever playing Box Of Rain.
Had a grate time and will be looking for a summer tour with all the remaining members of the Dead. Rumor has it they will be playing at either the Wannee or at Longarado in Florida.

Till next time,
Tim.

2 shows are done and we have 2 more to finish the Florida run.
Friday night in Fort Meyers, and Saturday night in Boca Raton.
I have to admit my wife and I are not as young as we used to be. After only 2 shows we are kinda tired and sore. It is going to be good to sleep in our own bed.

Fixin up a mess.

Here is a picture of "before" look at the light bulb (not lit) for a reference point.
Here is the after picture. Only a 6-8 foot decked crawl now.

Total count was 5 cut trusses, 6 truck loads of trash, 3 air handlers left behind, and 4 days of work for 3 men.
The customer used to have to run the system at 73 degrees daytime and 70 at night to stay comfortable.
Now she is freezing at 75 day and night and needs to keep it at 76 to 77 degrees to stay "just right".
She will see some electric savings now!
Stay Cool, Tim

Part 2 of a mess.

I have shown this before. Ducts laying on insulation WILL create water. It is like putting 2 coolers on top of each other, water will create quickly. As you can see with these pictures the ducts are touching everything, and with the high humidity this year my customer has water stains EVERYWHERE in her home.
Also because the unit had a "butt plate" return plenum on it, the air handler sweats too. The installing company thought taking insulation from the ceiling and shoving it in the emergency drain pan and under the air handler unit will help. Again insulation on insulation makes more moisture. The bottom of the air handler is rusted out and the emergency pan its on its way, not to mention the mold growing and a few rodents starting homes and family's in there.

This is were the water is after I moved the duct over a few feet.

Trash....Trash.....Trash.... I don't need to remove any stinkin trash. On top off all this they left all the trash in the attic. A good van or two worth of trash.
The worst part of this whole situation is...........................THIS SYSTEM IS ONLY 3 1/2 YEARS OLD!
Not a very long time for a $8,000. investment.
We need inspections/permits for HVAC change outs in Martin County!!!!!!
Stay cool and have fun
Tim
PS
Less than a month away for the 4 Ratdog shows in Florida!

Water stains Part 1

Alot of pictures this week!!
I'm going to have to make a part II entry today to get all the pictures I want.

This is our journey:
Complaint: Water stains showing up on the ceiling inside.
This first pic is were you climb up into the attic. 33 inch high at the peak.
There is some wood along the way. It is 1/2 inch plywood across 2 feet trusses, not nailed, not a good strong situation for a person to climb on.
Belly crawl through maze here.

This is our 2nd part of our crawl. Keep in mind outside 84 beautiful degrees. Inside attic 95 to 100 degrees. 12 foot crawl here to get to the pull chain light. Note: don't pull the wrong chain, the Tv and wireless computer stuff is plugged into the light too. Last time I was here and made this mistake, the TV shut off and the on line stuff crashed. Customer was stoked on this.

Notice the old abandoned air handler to the left, and all the duct laying on the insulation.

Now part 3 of this nice crawl across the ceiling.

Wrestle 10 feet over and under trusses to this delightful 4 year old air handler. The install of this job is horrendous. The ducts are strapped with old telephone wire. The unit is supported with used old cracking wood. Water dripping off of everything.

Please don't let me step through the ceiling. Plywood ran out a while back.

Well here I am, 4 feet away, Hey what is this? Oh it's just a truss cut out and wedged into an old used duct plenum to keep it from falling off the air handler. Supply duct only 18 inches long, should a minimum of 3 feet, and new.

Note: A TRUSS SHOULD NEVER BE CUT AND REMOVED!!

I counted 3 cut in this house.

This is a picture of the back side of the air handler. This is called the return air side of the unit. This is were clean, non restricted air goes into the machine. It should be in a nice 3 to 4 foot plenum. This one is a piece of flex duct shoved into the back. we call this a butt plate. Hey someone left their gloves with a bucket of trash.

What does this all add up to?

A big mess!

WIN FREE GAS!!

The Contest is simple.
Apply sticker to the back of your vehicle.
Drive around town.
Easy as that.

I have 4 spotters, who live and work around Martin County.
They see a sticker, write down the tag number, and we put it in a box.
On the second Friday and the last Friday of the month I will pull a number and cross reference to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, and BAM we have a winner of a $100.00 gas card.
That easy.

As you can see I have plenty of stickers.

I have 2,000 left and I just ordered another 12,000 more.

Call 283-7222 to request some or send a SASE to:

Bees and Fay. Do they mix?

Typical call on a typical day.
Not cooling.
Everything seems normal.
Until I notice a bunch of bees around.
Bees don't typically bother me. Wasps are another story.
I see the neighbor as a few palm trees with blossoms on them and a LOT of bees buzzing around them.
Again, relatively normal.
THEN I SEE IT.

A nest of bees up in the eave, on the roof of the house.

It's hard to see in these pictures, but this nest is big. Real big.

I tell the customer about there situation and the knew all about it, and they had no plans for removal. They even went as far as to tell me they are also in the attic, and they come IN the house sometimes.

I don't know about you but I would have an issue with a nest like this on my house. I also would have a major issue with bees in my home.

Oh well, to each it's own.

Fay, Fay blow away. Come another hurricane day.

3 things that I do not like:

Bee hives the size of a small bed.

Hurricanes in the Caribbean.

And poorly installed air conditioning systems.

Stay cool and have some fun,

Tim

PS I also don't like octopus when diving, they give me the willies.

Jerry Week

8-1-1942 - 8-9-1995
May you rest in peace.

For the people who did not know, Sirius radio has the Grateful Dead channel. 24/7
Needless to say we listen to it all the time.
It was Jerry week and had some real classic interviews and music.
A guy called in for a request and said "You know the song, the one with a long jam in the middle"
I thought that was funny as can be.

Tough week. Hot as can be. Thursday the attic peaked out at 126 degrees. Can't drink enough water. As always job came out great even with the mind melting temps.

Have fun,
Tim

Oh yea, OCC rocks!

New and used

The above picture is a used evap coil. The coil is filtered and needs to stay clean for the air conditioner to run properly and efficiently. This IS NOT a clean coil.
This is the new coil. This is what it should look like.
Just a recommendation, Use a GOOD filter, and replace the filter OFTEN.

We are taking 2 full days off this week. Going to a cool refreshing spring in north Central Fla. on Wednesday. Going to the NEW Seaworld water park on Thursday.
A couple of fun days in the water is just what the doctor ordered!

Remember August 1st FPL power bills going up 8%!!! YEAH!!!!
January 1st going up ANOTHER 8%!!!!! For a full 16% they were looking for.

Will this madness ever stop?

Till I get back sun burnt and sore,
Tim

Why do I cough so much?

Do I need my ducts cleaned?

No.

Why?

You need your ducts changed.

This is not a good situation.

How did it get this way?

Lack of maintenance.

Crappy return filter.

Most important undersized and improper ducting.

Know what and if your contractor knows what they are doing. Both of these pictures are from units that are less than 5 years old!

Breath safe,

Tim

Sam comes home.

Here is a picture of Sam a few weeks before he became a world traveler and went to Europe for three weeks.
He was very tired at the airport, but he did fill us with stories for 2 hours on the way home.

Being gone for three weeks something has changed about him but I just can't put a finger on it.

Oh well I'll figure it out soon enough.

I'm making Sam anything he wants for dinner tonight, and I think I'll make him a cake too.

It's great to have Sam home.

Tim

Sam update.

Sam is in Europe for 3 weeks. He took my camera so pictures will be low on my blog page.
I might as tell the world how it has been going.
Communication back and forth is sketchy at the best.
one email.
Until today, His leader called to say there has been some "monkey business" going on.
Monkey business = itching powder, excessive running, and jumping off of walls in a 1000 year old castle.
I needed to talk to him and tell him to settle down. Hard to discipline when I would have done the same in his circumstances.
So far in one week they,
Visited John F Kennedy Memorial in Runnymede.
Walked and sight see London,
Changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace,
Had a medieval lunch,
Explore the Tower of London (an old prison),
Meet the Beefeater guards,
A cruise on the Thames River,
Dinner theater watching The Lord Of The Rings,
Meet members of the Parliament,
Ride on the London Eye (worlds largest Ferris wheel @ 443 feet),
Visit Covent Garden with street performers,
Stay with a local Family for a few days to eat local food and do what the locals do,
Visit Statford-upon-Avon (home of Shakespeare),
Spend the night in a tented medieval village on the grounds of Warwick Castle, have free roam of the castle all night, Launch the worlds most powerful Catapult, AND repel off of the castle walls.

ALL THIS IN THE FIRST WEEK!

they say he has been messing around. I'd be coming out of my skin.

I'll run down week #2 latter.

Shits are in.

Sorry it has been so long for an update.
Work has been off the chain. I'm lucky if I get home before 9 or 10 at night.
Sam took off yesterday for Europe with the People to People program. He will be gone for 3 weeks. He is going to England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Not a bad trip for a 13 year old.
If anyone wants a shirt just call 772-283-7222.

The Heat Is On

We went from mild to nice temperatures of low to mid 80's for weeks. May 1st came and left and we all thought summer would never get here. Then came May 3rd came along 96 degrees! That was a real smack in the face. EVERYONE and I mean everyone called. I have said it for years, get that a/c checked before it gets hot.
Here is a cool poster from Phil Lesh and Friends. The Warfield in San Fran. is closing and Phil has the last 5 nights booked. They been throwing down the bombs! Playing full multi Dead albums each night! Check some action on philzone.com. Also check out archives.org for LOADS of free live music.
After looking at this unit and showing the customer pictures of it (it is on a tall rooftop) the question was asked "Will it last another year?" I wish I had a dollar every time I heard that question.
Installed 2 new systems last year for the Walsh family. They are saving 72% off of the cooling bill! These 2 systems will be paid for in full in 42 months! In 3 1/2 years!!!! I don't know about you but I hate paying that power bill.

Till next time,
Tim

There still out there

The weather is still perfect for pompano fishing. Light current, light westerly winds, the water is clean.
Rescheduled some work and school and we watched the sun rise on TUESDAY morning. That's right a Tuesday.
We caught all these fish, not the wiener dog He just wandered into the picture, before 9 AM.

I am not a huge fish eater or a fish killer, but we do love those pompano. We will get another 3 meals from them and some Friends will stop by this afternoon to enjoy a few. 3 fish at 2 lbs. each is a real feast.

This weather is supposed to last past the weekend, we will try it again on Saturday.

Till then, stay cool

Tim

Pompano on the beach

Ted kept asking over and over to go to the beach today. I had a boatload of paperwork to do and I kept saying no. Then Anita said she would go and kept asking me to go and try to fish. I finally gave in and we went. It was real windy and we were watching the kite surfers coming and going. Those people rock! Looks like alot of fun. Some of them catch some massive air. I hung out and the tide came in and the waves started to mellow out and the wind too. Still waiting and all of a sudden bait fish appeared and birds were diving and the beach came alive.
In the time span of about 2 to 2 1/2 hours we caught a MESS of fish. 13 pompano, a dozen blue runners, couple of whitting, a couple of croacker, 2 ladyfish, a bluefish, and a 6 to 7 foot shark ate another pompano and ripped up my rig.
We also saw a few snook and a couple of rolling tarpon.

The final count was 13 pompano for the grill and we will feed a few neighbors, They ALWAYS like when we catch too many pompano. May 3rd is very late for pompano. The moral of the story is when asked to go the beach, Go! The paperwork will always be waiting for me. My family will be grown and gone before I know it.

Till next week,

Tim

P.S. anyone want a fish or two for dinner give me a call.
